For Stamford, Local Ballot Goes Beyond Just Clinton Vs. Trump

STAMFORD, Conn. — Much of the political spotlight this year is focused on the heated race for the presidency between Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican Donald Trump.

In the race for the 4th Congressional District, Republican challenger John Shaban will take on four-term Democratic incumbent Jim Himes.

But voters in Stamford are also set to vote on Tuesday, Nov. 8, in a number of races that are much closer to home — including four seats on the Board of Education.

Voters can cast ballots in races for the U.S. Senate and House:

U.S. Senate: Democrat incumbent Richard Blumenthal of Greenwich vs. Republican challenger Dan Carter of Bethel vs. Richard Lion of the Libertarian Party and Jeffery Russell of the Green Party
4th District U.S. House: Republican challenger John Shaban of Redding vs. Democrat incumbent Jim Himes of Greenwich

There is also a race for the State Senate:

Democrat incumbent Carlo Leone vs. Republican Gino C. Bottino vs. Cora Marie Santaguida of the Green Party

For the State House, there are six different districts in Stamford (residents vote only in their district):

District 144: Democrat incumbent Caroline Simmons vs. Steven Bartolo Kolenberg, Republican
District 145: Democrat incumbent Patricia Billie Miller vs. Francky Trofort, Republican
District 146: Democrat incumbent Terry B. Adams, vs. Arkadiusz Jakubowski, Republican
District 147: William Tong, incumbent Democrat, running unopposed
District 148: Democrat incumbent Daniel J. Fox vs. Phil Balestriere, Republican, vs. Brian Merlen of the Green Party
District 149: Republican incumbent Livvy Floren, running unopposed

In local elections, there is a race for the Board of Education, with voters able to cast ballots for any three candidates for a full three-year term:

Democrat Jennienne Burke, Democrat Antoine Savage, Republican Nicola Tarzia, and/or Eumir Antonio Abela of the Green Party.

There is also one candidate to fill a one-year vacancy on the Stamford Board of Education: Democrat Geoff Alswanger.

Also, Stamford voters will cast ballots for registrar of voters, with Ron Malloy, Democrat, vs. Lucy F. Corelli, Republican, vs. Rolf W. Maurer, Green Party.

And for president and vice president, four teams are on the ballot:

Democrats Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine;
Republicans Donald Trump and Mike Pence
Libertarian Party's Gary Johnson and Bill Weld
Green Party's Jill Stein and Ajamu Baraka
